Becoming Someone New
One of the simplest but most challenging truths to live is this...
If we want a new experience of life, we have to become someone new.
Most people try to skip that last part. 🙋🏻♂️
We lean harder on effort and willpower, believing that if we just push a little more, we can finally get where we want to go.
It makes sense, because familiar patterns, even painful ones, can feel safer than the unknown.
Effort is also the currency our culture rewards, and performance is often the scaffolding our identity rests on.
But sooner or later, external effort without internal growth can only take us so far.
After leaving the NFL and a football career that didn’t turn out the way I hoped, I became determined to prove—to myself and to others—that I wasn't a failure.
I told myself that if I just kept showing up, kept pushing, and outworked the pain, I would finally get to where I wanted to be.
But what I couldn’t see then—and what took nearly three years to understand—is that if the version of me I was back then could create the life I wanted, he would have already.
That's when I started to see that the real work wasn’t about doing more.
It was about becoming someone new.
Becoming someone new doesn't happen overnight and from my experience, it rarely feels inspiring while it's happening.
For me, it looked like choosing stillness when everything in me wanted to stay busy.
It looked like admitting how my fear was driving my life, and learning to meet that fear with curiosity instead of control.
Most importantly, it looked like leaning into the edges of vulnerability, embodying authenticity and asking for help.
So if you feel like you’ve hit a wall, it might not mean you’re doing something wrong.
It might mean life is inviting you into the deeper work of becoming someone new.
It's not always easy work, but I promise you...it's worth it.
And most importantly, you don't have to do it alone.
As always, I'm rooting for you. We're in this together.
