Finding Inner Rest To Move Beyond Burnout

Unpopular Opinion: the rest that we need (and that we’re looking for) isn’t going to come from a week long vacation at the beach.

No, I’m not saying that vacations aren’t important, because they are—especially vacations at the beach. ☀️🌊

But we’re going to continue to live from vacation to vacation until we are willing to challenge our notion of rest.

Rest isn’t something that we only do on Sunday or on vacation. Sure, that’s part of it. But there’s a deeper rest available to all of us.

Rest is an internal posture. A posture that we can carry into our work lives every single day.

Yes, the rest that we are looking for is less about what we do on Sunday and more to do with how we hold ourselves internally—emotionally and mentally.

And when we learn to live from this posture, everything changes.

With a posture of rest, we don’t live with the hurry erratic energy that leaves us feeling like we’re behind—regardless of how much we’ve done. We don’t strive from an ungrounded place. And, we don’t blindly react to the chaos around us.

When rest is our internal posture, we stay connected to our center and therefore have the capacity to be more present, perform at our best, and live a healthier and happier life.

So, how can we cultivate this internal posture of rest? My four part REST framework and Beyond Burnout corporate workshop helps you do just that.

R - Recognize the invitations inviting us to a deeper rest

E - Embrace authenticity in the moment we feel the most outstretched

S - Shift to the present to stay grounded

T - Trust whole-heartedly as we learn to let go of things we can’t control

As more and more leaders are being asked to do more but with fewer resources, we need to learn how to live, and lead, from this internal posture of rest.
